Renovated Family Home in Saga Prefecture
This property is a renovated wooden, tile-roofed two-story house originally built in January 1948. The renovation project was undertaken to preserve the original Japanese architectural techniques while adapting the home for modern living. Key improvements include the addition of a system kitchen, underfloor heating, and a fireplace to create a comfortable and stylish living space. Energy-efficient measures were implemented, such as water-saving toilets, double-glazed windows, and insulation. Natural wall materials with moisture-regulating and deodorizing properties were used in the reception room and office areas. To enhance seismic performance, bracing was added to the outer and inner walls, reinforced with structural plywood. The renovation also addressed the building's distortion, a challenge due to its age, and achieved barrier-free access by converting part of the hallway into a gentle slope. The home retains original features like exposed beams, a restored corridor, and old transom windows, preserving the memories of the owner's childhood. The second floor serves as a free space for community use.
