A Charming House in Shari District, Hokkaido
Several summers ago, I visited Hokkaido for a friend's wedding. The landscape was strikingly different from my home in Kyushu, with beautiful white birch and poplar trees and gently rolling terrain that offered expansive, open views. I’d love to return in winter to experience the snow-covered scenery.
This countryside akiya (vacant house) is located in Kiyosato, Shari District, offering breathtaking views of the vast Hokkaido landscape. The wooden two-story house spans 34 tsubo (approx. 112 sqm) and features large windows that flood the interior with natural light. Utilities include electricity and propane gas, with water sourced from a well. Though only one interior photo is available, the house appears well-maintained, suggesting it hasn’t been vacant for long. Built in 1969, it’s now 51 years old—ripe for a renovation to modernize its charm.
The property faces Mount Shari, with views stretching to the Shiretoko mountain range. The expansive grounds and stunning scenery make it an ideal retreat for nature lovers. Nearby, the UNESCO-listed Shiretoko Peninsula is a major attraction, known for its pristine wilderness and diverse wildlife.
This property is already sold, but it’s a glimpse into the unique opportunities Hokkaido’s countryside offers.
