Earthquake Building Standards

This property was built in 1994. Japan has three major eras of earthquake building standards:

Pre-1981: Old Seismic Standard (旧耐震基準)

Properties were only required to withstand moderate earthquakes (Shindo 5). Many suffered significant damage in the 1995 Kobe earthquake. A structural assessment is recommended — seismic retrofitting typically costs ¥1M-¥3M.

1981-1999: New Seismic Standard (新耐震基準) This property
