Higashi Machiya Renovation in Gojo, Kyoto
Heritage Homes Japan presents the Higashi Machiya renovation, a pre-1945 Kyoto machiya located a 3-minute walk from Gojo Subway Station and 10 minutes from Kyoto Station. The 100-year-old house has been fully stripped as the first step in restoring the historic building. The in-house design team is creating a contemporary 2-bedroom home featuring two atriums and a glass floor, blending the old machiya with a very contemporary look. Completion is expected in December 2024. The goal is to maintain the building's historical charm while providing modern comforts.
