Yuzu Cultivation Regional Revitalization Cooperation Team Position in Umaji Village, Kochi
This is a recruitment notice for a commissioned-type Regional Revitalization Cooperation Team (地域おこし協力隊) member focused on yuzu cultivation in Umaji Village, Kochi Prefecture. The position is hosted by the Umaji Village Agricultural Cooperative (JA Umaji Mura). Umaji Village boasts the highest rate of organic farming in Japan, with 81% of its cultivated land under organic management. The village is renowned for its organic yuzu production, which is processed into popular products such as the drink "Gokkun Umaji Mura" and the citrus ponzu "Yuzu no Mura."
The primary mission involves learning and performing annual yuzu production management tasks, including fertilization, pruning, and weeding, alongside JA staff. The role also includes promoting the village's efforts through social media. This is an employment-type position with the agricultural cooperative, offering a stable salary while learning farming skills. The initial contract is until the end of the fiscal year of appointment, renewable annually up to a maximum of three years. Working hours are from 8:15 to 17:00, five days a week, with social insurance coverage (health insurance, welfare pension, employment insurance, and workers' accident compensation insurance). Necessary equipment for work is provided. Side businesses are permitted as long as they do not interfere with the main duties.
Eligibility requirements include being at least 20 years old and up to around 40 years old, being able to relocate to Umaji Village from a metropolitan area, possessing a valid driver's license, and being capable of basic computer operations and social media communication. After the three-year term, options include continuing employment with the JA or becoming an independent yuzu farmer. A two-week internship program is also available for those who wish to experience the work before applying.
