Chojatakibashi Bridge: A Rare Bamboo-Reinforced Concrete Arch Bridge in Iwate Prefecture
Chojatakibashi Bridge is a concrete two-span arch bridge located in Genbi-cho, Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture. Completed in 1939, the bridge spans 61 meters with a width of 3.9 meters. It is constructed using a rare technique where bamboo rods were embedded in concrete to create a bamboo-reinforced concrete structure, a method seldom seen in Japan. In 1999, the bridge was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. From the bridge, visitors can view the beautiful gorge of Genbikei, a nationally designated Natural Monument. The emerald green waters of the valley create a particularly stunning scene during the autumn foliage season and when covered in snow.
