Temple Stay Zensō: A Serene Telework Retreat in Gunma
Discover Zensō, a unique temple stay and telework facility in Chiyoda Town, Gunma Prefecture, designed to blend productivity with tranquility. This renovated space offers a distinctive environment for both focused individual work and collaborative team activities, set within the peaceful grounds of a temple.
The facility's equipment and features are thoughtfully designed for modern remote work needs. It includes individual spaces for quiet, focused work; communal areas where conversation and collaboration are welcome; private rooms for corporate contracts; private rooms for individual contracts; and meeting rooms available for rent. A key design feature is the conversion of a former closet (oshiire) space into a semi-private workstation. By removing the doors, the area has been transformed into an immersive workspace that allows for deep concentration, while also offering views of the garden for moments of refreshment.
Further enhancing functionality, a transparent whiteboard has been installed on the wall of a Japanese-style room, maintaining the aesthetic while adding utility. A television, neatly stored in a ceiling cabinet (tenbukuro), can also mirror a computer screen. This balance of comfort and practicality makes the space ideal for corporate retreats, team-building exercises, and group projects.
Located in Gunma's countryside, the area offers a stark contrast to Tokyo's bustle. An interesting local fact is that Gunma is one of Japan's few landlocked prefectures, completely surrounded by other prefectures and featuring diverse landscapes from mountains to plains. The closest major tourist attraction is the iconic Tomioka Silk Mill, a UNESCO World Heritage site located approximately a 30-minute drive away, which offers a fascinating glimpse into Japan's industrial history.
