Registered Tangible Cultural Property "Musyoan" — A Former Village Headman's Residence in Kawanishi City
This property is a nationally registered tangible cultural property known as "Musyoan." It is a former village headman's residence located in a flat area where rural landscapes still remain, just a 10-minute drive from the Nose Electric Railway line. The property is surrounded by a white wall and features a rare L-shaped nagayamon (long gate). The main reception rooms are built in the sukiya style, and the property includes a goemonburo (traditional Japanese bathtub), an irori (hearth) room, and a tea room designed to resemble a boat entrance. The garden is beautiful in spring and features striking red autumn leaves in the fall. The property dates back to the Edo period, with the nagayamon built in 1863.
The property has a south-facing exterior with rice fields spreading out in front, a nagayamon, a main house, a detached guest room, a garden, and a tea house building. The site is bordered by a road to the east and rice fields to the west and south, with all boundary markers clearly indicated. The property is located in Higashitada, Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture. The area is a quiet residential neighborhood with remaining productive green spaces, offering a good balance of convenience and nature with gentle hills to the east. Kawanishi City is situated at the junction of Kyoto, Osaka, and Hyogo prefectures, with Kansai International Airport and Kyoto about 1 hour by car, Osaka and Kobe airports about 30 minutes, and Itami Airport just 20 minutes away. Higashitada has abundant nature despite being close to various shopping facilities and hospitals. The clear Ina River flows nearby, and there is Tada Shrine associated with the Seiwa Genji clan, as well as Shararin Mountain to the north where satoyama maintenance is progressing, allowing for a taste of the historical environment. Tada Station is a 10-minute ride to Kawanishi Noseguchi, the city center, which connects to JR and has department stores, a library, city hall, and hospitals.
