Aburaden Kominka: A Grand Edo-Era Estate in Kanuma City, Tochigi
This impressive Kominka, built during the Edo period, stands on the foothill plain of Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture. The property is distinguished by the grandeur of its storehouse (Kura) and main house, a testament to the wealth and authority of the region's great families. The Nakajima family, who founded and owned this Kominka, served as the Nanushi (Gentry) of Aburaden town for generations in the pre-modern era. The estate's overwhelming presence is marked by its grand Nagaya-mon gate and Kura, structures that command attention even from a distance.
